It was established in 1969 in the municipality of San Miguel, Jordan in Guimaras Island, one of the country’s top mango-producing provinces. NMRDC has helped advance Guimaras island’s present mango production. Because of the Center’s continued research and support on production and technology, Guimaras now boasts of being the only province in the contry certified free of quarantine pests, mango seed weevil, and mango pulp weevil. If not only we are running out of time & pennies, and if not only out of our way - we really wanted to see Roca Encantada, San Miguel, Buenavista, Guimaras. A summerhouse owned by Lopez family built in 1910 on top of a huge rock. 

Touchdown Jordan, Guimaras

Southeast of Panay and Northwest of Negros Islands in Western Visayas, Philippines. Fresh from Ilo-Ilo, we sailed to see Guimaras and their mangoes. Sa port pa lang e may nag-offer na sa amin ng FREE van courtesy of Guimaras Province. Our first stop was at Trappist Monastery, a peaceful and sacred enclave in Guimaras run by monks of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance. Monks here earn a living by selling souvenir items and processed foods such as jellies, jams, candies, piyaya and more, which are sold in a small shop within the monastery grounds. All the products are from ingredients grown in the Trappist grounds.
